  • Corrugated (moving boxes, etc)
  • Paper Board (cereal boxes, 12 pack boxes, etc)
  • Shoe Boxes
  • Packaging (remove plastic pieces, packing peanuts, etc)

 

Plastic numbers 1 – 7 (no caps or lids)

  • Water, Pop, Juice, Milk Bottles
  • Yogurt Cups
  • Butter Tubs
  • Cleaning Product Bottles from Laundry Detergent, Bleach, Dish Soap, Spray Cleaners (must be washed out)

 

Metal

  • Pop Cans
  • Food Cans (soups, veggies and fruit, etc)
  • Clean Aluminum Foil

 

  • Anything contaminated with food residue, like greasy pizza boxes or aluminum foil
  • Anything that hasn’t been emptied and rinsed
  • Plastic wrap like Saran wrap
  • Shrink wrap
  • Plastic bags of all kinds: grocery, produce, bread, dry cleaning, etc
  • Packing peanuts
  • Styrofoam packing inserts
  • Pots or pans, flatware, or utensils
  • Clothes hangers
  • CDs or DVDs
  • Baby pools and lawn furniture

Alternative opportunities

  • Plastic bags: use reusable bags. Save grocery store bags to line small trash cans or to recycle at the grocery store (they usually have a big bin for them, but they must be clean, dry and empty.).
  • Batteries: bring them to a store that recycles (like Batteries Plus or Ikea) or to Facilities Management.
  • Lightbulbs: put incandescents in the trash. Bring CFLs to a store that recycles them (like Ikea) or to Facilities Management.
  • Electronics: The Montgomery County Solid Waste District accepts broken electronics. Check their website for times, dates, and details.
  • Ink and Toner: Bring your cartridges to an office supply retailer with a recycling program, like Staples. Or, call the sustainability office to request a pick up.
